Commentary:

Deadly accidents between 18-wheeler trucks and passenger vehicles are happening more frequently as the Dallas-Fort Worth area continues to boom. When an accident occurs, you need to know who to turn to for help. Accidents can be a very confusing time for everyone, and having to think about legal help is often overlooked. Getting good advice from an experienced team of attorneys can make the difference between getting enough money to support yourself after a life-changing accident and getting short-changed by the insurance company and the trucking company.

The trucking company just wants you to take a settlement. But that first settlement amount almost certainly will not take into account the full range of damages you are likely to have after such an accident. The most difficult damage to account for is future medical bills. With the cost of medical treatment is on the rise in America, coupled with the full range of medical treatment you may need such as, medication for pain, rehabilitation for injuries, surgery, and hospital stays, and other ongoing treatment, the likelihood that the initial settlement offer from the trucking company will cover the full range of your medical bills is slim to none.

On top of all that, we also need to talk about your lost wages, loss of earning capacity, loss of consortium, disfigurement, mental anguish, and any other claims for damages, on top of any wrongful death claims that may have arisen from the accident. The trucking company, and their insurance carrier will not want to cover all those damages either. That is why you need an experienced attorney who will fight to get you all compensation necessary so that you can move forward knowing that the trucking paid for what they did to you.

In order to get an idea of your full range of damages, you need to take the time to several things:

(1) get an idea of what the extent of you injuries are, and how long it will take you to recover. This will give us a pretty good idea of what you medical costs will be. If you need surgery, or multiple surgeries, then we need a figure from the medical staff as to what the cost of that will be.

(2) We need to get an estimate of recovery time and the extent of rehabilitation that you will need to come back to good health. This will give us a good idea as to what the costs of recovery will be.

(3) How much time will you miss from work because of your injuries, and when you return to work, what is the likelihood you will be able to do your job as well, or at all, like you could before the accident. This will give us a good idea of what your lost wages and earning capacity will be now and going forward.

(4) The full range of your injuries, the recovery time from them, and any disfigurement that results, will all contribute to your mental anguish damages. Any loss of life that occurs will also be a factor in your mental anguish damages that will add to your damages through counseling, medication, depression, and other mental pains and suffering.

These are some of the basic needs you must figure out before you can even think about taking a settlement offer from the trucking company.  An experienced attorney will be able to help you account for all of these damages and get you the recovery you need to get your life back in order.
