FORNEY, Texas — Four North Forney High School students were injured in a two-vehicle collision on Thursday afternoon on Farm-to-Market (FM) 548 near Falcon Way. The crash was reported at 4:07 p.m. on FM 548 at its intersection with Falcon Way and Devonshire Drive. A vehicle was attempting to cross FM 548 from Falcon Way to Devonshire Drive when their vehicle was t-boned by a truck which was traveling northbound on FM 548, according to Texas Department of Public Safety troopers.
Troopers say the driver’s view was obstructed when the attempt was made to cross FM 548. One of the passengers became entrapped in the vehicle and was later transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, by CareFlite medical helicopter with what were described as serious injuries. Three other passengers in the vehicle were transported by ground ambulance to Parkland.
It was announced in March, it was announced by TX Dot that the intersection between Falcon Way and Devonshire Drive warranted a stop light. It is actually a traffic violation to cross FM 548 from one side to the other directly. The lines are denoted left or right turn only. This means that this accident, like the vast majority of all accidents, was potentially avoidable.
But accidents like these are exactly why TX Dot decided that a stop light was necessary in that intersection. It is a dangerous area and we have a high volume of our local high school students driving in and out of that intersection on a regular basis. The stop light should be installed some time this summer and hopefully that will help make that intersection safer for all who use it.
