The crash happened around 5 a.m. on Interstate 30 near the Royse City and Fate areas and apparently an 18-wheeler traveling westbound went across the median into oncoming traffic. It collided with another 18-wheeler head on. A third vehicle was involved.
All eastbound lanes of I-30 between FM 35 and FM 2642 are expected to be shut down for most of the day as crews complete their accident investigation. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area if possible.
This 18-wheeler wreck is an example of the power and danger that 18-wheelers present when they are involved in an accident. Whatever caused the 18-wheeler to go over the median, whether it be driver error or vehicle malfunction, they will be considered at fault. The driver of the other 18-wheeler and the driver of the passenger vehicle who lost their lives, their estates will have claims for wrongful death and survivor action against the driver at fault, and their company.
Usually, the insurance company will seek to obtain some sort of settlement, but it will quite often be too low and not take into account the full extent of the loss of life. This is a horrible tragedy and should be treated that way. While it may be hard to think about since the accident is so fresh, the truth remains that you need someone in your corner fighting for you as you continue to grieve. I encourage the families of the victims to seek the advice of an experienced personal injury attorney to learn more about the insurance claims process, and what type of recovery may be available to them. The longer you wait, the harder it will be. Do not leave money on the table, the only person you’ll be hurting is yourself, and the only person you’ll be helping is the company at fault.
