Another Child Left In Hot Van By A Day Care. This Time in Greenville….

As a parent, when you leave your child with someone else, you expect them to care for your child like they were your own. At the very least, you expect them make sure the basic needs and well-being are being looked after. However, it is far too often that we hear about children being left in hot cars today. It is one thing when a forgetful parent does it. That parent has to live with that pain of knowing they harmed their child for the rest of their life. But when a licensed, professional day care forgets about your child in a vehicle all day, that is another thing entirely.

According to EastTexasMatters.com, a 3-year-old child was reportedly left in a Greenville childcare’s van on Monday. The city of Greenville’s public information officer said that officers were called to the L.P. Waters campus on Carver on reports a child was left inside a local daycare’s van from around 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

It was at around 2:30 p.m., that the driver went back to the L.P. Waters campus to pick up students. The driver reported the van’s side door was open and the child was standing there. The 3-year-old boy was removed and taken into the school where the nurse began caring for him.

This little 3-year old was lucky. It seems that they will be fine. But the question remains: what on earth was going on from 8:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m.? If that small child had not had the door open, the tone of this story would be much different. Outrage is appropriate, but at least we don’t have to be somber and remember the life of a child cut short. This child looks like he may be fine and ultimately make a full physical recovery. That doesn’t mean that the day care wasn’t negligent and that they didn’t put that child’s life at risk. They were still horribly negligent in their supervision of that child. That child may suffer emotional problems from being left in a hot car all day. Victims of these types of events sometimes develop PTSD-like symptoms. The pain and fear of being left as a small child is great. For the parents of that child, the knowing that they dodged a bullet here. That their child may only be alive because the child had gotten the van door open to let in some cooler air must be terrifying to think about.

Sadly, for many parents who have placed in this position, their child did not turn out “okay”. For many of those parents, they will never speak to their children again. Please folks. Remember your kids when you are getting out of the car and please, PLEASE day-care employees, remember to sweep the bus for children every time. Kids are little. They play games. They fall asleep. You are the adult. They are under your supervision. Be responsible and protect everyone’s babies, just like you would your own.
