(via nbcdfw.com): A driver of a FedEx truck died after being involved in a crash early Saturday morning in Dallas.
Dallas police said the driver of a Honda Accord fell asleep hitting another car. The Honda was able to make it to the side of the road and the driver made it out of the vehicle. Police said the Accord was hit by the FedEx truck, causing the driver to lose control and crashing into the barrier of the bridge.
The semi caught fire in the crash and officials declared the driver, 30-year-old Quantico Smith, dead on the scene.
The southbound lanes of Interstate 45 were closed while crews removed the FedEx truck. Crews cleared that scene at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
A spokesperson for FedEx released a statement Saturday: “First and foremost, we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the individual involved in this accident. Safety is our highest priority and we are cooperating fully with investigating authorities at this time.”
FedEx said customers with questions about their shipments can track their packages on the company’s website and contact their shipper to begin the claims process if they suspect their shipment was lost in the crash.
