Four Dead in Accident on US 377 Just Outside of Agryle, Texas


The  deadly crash was reported at 8:17 p.m. and involved a Nissan Rogue and a Volvo XC60.

Officials with the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office had not released the names of the victims, but has confirmed that two of the deceased are Emma Azuela de Shaffer and her daughter Emma “Tita” Shaffer, a sixth grader at Liberty Christian School in Argyle.

A Nissan Rogue traveling southbound crossed into the northbound lane crashed head-on into a Volvo XC60, the release said.

The child passenger in the Nissan was taken to Denton Regional Medical Center and later died, the female driver was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the release.

The female driver of the Volvo was flown to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Plano. The female driver later died, the “young passenger” in the Volvo was pronounced dead on the scene, the release said.

A vigil for the Shaffers was scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday at the Warrior statue on the campus of Liberty Christian School, 1301 South Highway 377, in Argyle.

Yet another example of how deadly our older highways can be. The highway here has no median that keeps traffic flowing one direction from flowing over into oncoming traffic. With the rise of distracted driving, and increased traffic on these more rural highways presents a deadly combination of speed and power.
